April/May 2008

“What does Mrs. Bechtel do all day?” This question has been asked of me in many different ways over the years. It seems that sometimes people forget that my wife is also a missionary and also has ministry responsibilities. Lisa’s first job is wife and mother and I am happy to report that she takes this very seriously. God has given us two beautiful boys who happen to be full of energy and always getting into all kinds of trouble as toddler and infant boys do. They keep Lisa very busy each and every day. Our oldest, Ethan, turned 3 last week and our youngest will turn 1 in July. We thank God and praise him for their lives!

Lisa’s second job is to be my secretary and accountant. She proofreads all of my materials and emails; helps me do my work at the Faith Baptist Bible College; organizes transportation and hotels for all of our visiting groups, and keeps our financial records up to date. She also makes sure that I keep my emails answered and keep my appointments during the week.

Lisa’s third job is her ministry job. Presently she is teaching a Bible study that meets every Wednesday morning. The great thing is that the purpose of this Bible study is evangelism. It meets in a private home and everyone is asked to bring their unsaved friends to hear God’s Word. They are studying the topic of HOPE in God right now and the ladies seem to be enjoying it greatly. One lady told Lisa that she is so excited about the study that she goes home each Wednesday and starts her lesson for the next week. When her boys come home from school, she is still working on it and now they have started asking her questions about the Bible. This past week, she just decided to read to them from the Bible. Later as they were misbehaving she said, “You are doing exactly what Paul told us not to do in God’s Word.” She was so excited to share this with Lisa. Please pray for her as she ministers to me, our family and the ladies in our community. We are hoping that more ladies will come to know God and help their families to follow Christ.

What have I been doing lately? I started teaching the new semester at Faith Baptist Bible College with 13 students. I am teaching the book of Hebrews and the Life of Christ. Please pray for these men as many of them are already pastoring churches in rural areas. In most African churches, little or no discipleship is ever done. Kenya needs pastors who want to and can invest their lives into the people. I want to impact them and help them to really shepherd their flocks.

I have started a program on Thursday nights which we are calling Life Groups. We have four instructors teaching four different Bible courses. Around 45 people are presently enrolled, but we hope to have more people willing to come out to learn about Jesus and to grow in their walk with Him. My goal is to have 250 people involved in this ministry some day and with God’s help that is exactly what we will do.

I am still active at the rural churches, feeding centers and schools preaching, teaching chapels and doing teacher training. God has blessed and allow us to teach over 312 children about Jesus on a daily basis as part of their education. We hope that these children will reach their villages and make a lasting change for God. The Jesus Film was shown last week and over 1000 people came to see it and hear the Gospel.

Thank you for your prayers and support.
