March - April 2010

Do you remember the old TV show “Emergency” from the late seventies? Maybe I am showing my age by asking, but it was my favorite show. Why? Because it was about firemen - these courageous men would risk their lives entering burning buildings to help strangers. Yesterday we were at CrossPointe Baptist in Kansas City with Pastor Bill Boren. He was talking about why we do missions and he made a statement with tears in his eyes, “Why do Bobby and Lisa Bechtel take their children to Mombasa, Kenya? Because people are dying and going to Hell.” It touched me greatly. He hit the nail right on the head. Who are we rescuing from an eternity in the fires of Hell?

As Christians we need to remember that the reason we reach out to the world with the Gospel is because “people are dying and going to Hell.” This thought has stirred me once again to live my life to reach as many people as possible with God’s message of forgiveness.

I received this letter today from a young man in Kenya named David: HI PASTOR - To tell you the truth I am very much contemplating getting saved but the big question remains. What is to be saved? What is the process of getting saved? I thought being baptized is enough?

I am a catholic please help coz our line of argument and thinking is quite different from you evangelicals.  I feel that am a sinner and am very far from God and I really don know how to come near him please help me. Please answer before This Sunday. Regards, David

David is in danger of Hell even though he knows about Jesus and baptism because he knows nothing about salvation. He is hungry to know the truth and can’t even wait until Sunday to get a response – why? He knows that he is a sinner and far from God. Please pray for David right now that he will receive the truth of the Gospel and accept Jesus as His personal Savior.

There are thousands like David in Kenya. When I look at them, I can become overwhelmed at the task to reach them but God has been so faithful. We came in 2002 and God has enabled 4 churches to be established and 1500 people now come to them regularly. Thousands more have made professions of faith. We are thankful but more needs to be done.

Please pray for the Bechtel family and give financially to the ministry. We want to start a new church this year but it will not happen without your prayer and financial help. I believe if you listen to your heart you will know that no price is too high to make sure that one more person makes it to heaven and that Satan loses one that is bound for Hell today. It is an emergency situation and we need to be God’s firemen who come to the rescue.

Personal News: Our son, Dylan Lee was born on March 29th, weighed 6 lbs. 13 oz. Pray for us as we complete his adoption and leave for Kenya. God is so good!

Till the whole world knows Christ,
Bobby Lisa Ethan Conner & Dylan Bechtel
