Our children planned and executed a
family celebration for us on July 20. They called it
“50-60-80.” Don has been in the ministry for 50 years, we
experienced our 60th wedding anniversary, and Don celebrated
his 80th birthday. There were children, grandchildren, and
great grandchildren present; 40 people in all. They
presented us with a family tree and each family member gave
a personal testimony or a favorite memory they had of us.
The next day on Sunday we all worshipped together at the
church our son-in-law started. Our grandson preached and
another grandson led the music service. We won’t soon forget
the blessing of being together at such a special time.
After waiting for a few months we
finally arrived in Zambia August 22!! Our son and family
picked us up in the capitol and after a 5 hour drive we
arrived in Luanshya, the place that has been our home and
area of ministry for 21 years. It felt good to be sleeping
in our own bed. There have been many opportunities for me to
preach, and on September 6 we attended the alumni banquet of
the Baptist Bible College of Zambia. Our hearts were touched
as pastors and former students expressed their sincere
appreciation for what we had taught them in the last sixteen
years in preparation for the ministry and serving God.
Several testimonies really encouraged us and should
encourage you also since you have been co-laborers with us
in our ministry here in Zambia. One pastor reported that his
church was in the process of starting two other churches.
Another pastor was very appreciative of what he had learned
that had helped him in the ministry and assured us of his
prayers for the prosperity of the Baptist Bible College.
Still another former student thanked us for teaching him how
to win souls. After all, winning souls and establishing
churches is the work that thrills the heart of a missionary.
Thank you sincerely for your part in helping to “Train these
The Zambian government has been trying
to get existing churches in the country to officially
register according to various affiliations for over ten
years. We were blessed by the Lord to receive official
exemption from registration for the Baptist Bible Fellowship
of Zambia in 1992, at our inception. The Lord willing, this
month our Executive Council will begin registration with six
churches. In the future all individual churches in Zambia
will fall under the Independent Churches of Zambia
Leadership Board, or simply be deregistered. Please pray for
the Executive Council, as this is a tedious and necessary
