Mother's Day -

Fête des
Mères
Realizing that
Mother’s Day is celebrated in different countries on
different days and in different ways, we still wanted to
have a special day for mothers. So we decided to
celebrate it on the traditional American Mother’s Day.
(Since then we learned that Mother’s Day is celebrated
earlier than the US date. We will be ready next year to
celebrate it on Burkina’s national day of celebration.)
During this time of celebration Ésaïe OUÉDRAOGO and his
wife, Esther KABORÉ, decided to dedicate their new born son
to the Lord. It was a fitting time to have both
a baby dedication and a time to honor mothers on the same
day.
Below are a few

Ésaïe and Esther, with
their new son, Enoch, stood before the
congregation. They were affirming their desire
to raise Enoch according to the Word of the
Lord.

I took the
opportunity to teach from Psalms 127.1-5,
about how children are an heritage of the
Lord. It was a great time to begin to teach
Biblical principles of family life, in a
culture greatly affected by both the Muslim
and animist beliefs on family.

Mary went out and
purchased gifts for both parts of the
service, the baby dedication and the
Mother’s Day celebration. She is giving a
few gifts to Esther for her son, Enoch.
|
During the
Mother’s Day celebration, as was previously stated, we
honored all mothers present with us. We presented a
little something to the children of the mothers present.
It was also a time to honor certain mothers present with
us. We honored the newest, the youngest, the oldest and
the mother with the most children present in the
services.

The newest mother
present was Esther KABORÉ. Here Mary is
presenting her with a special gift.

The youngest mother
present was Adèle OUÉDRAOGO. Adèle was saved
after our Wednesday Bible study on April
27th.

The oldest mother
present was Alizetta WOBGO, the mother of
Adjaratou. She was saved after this morning
services.
|
|
The mother with
the most children present in our services was
Marceline OUANGRAWA, who had seven children
present. Her children have been active in our
services for several months. We had an
opportunity to talk with their father a few
times in the past, but this was the first time
we had the opportunity to meet and talk with
their mother.

We have included a few more
pictures of some of the women and girls present.
Mary had the
opportunity to play the flute for the
services. Kadi assisted her with the song
book. All of us really enjoyed her flute
playing, as it enhanced the services.

Rachel has been
active in teaching the junior church. She
has developed a close relationship with the
children, who greatly respect her and enjoy
being in her class.

were present this morning, all girls.
