Morogoro is a large Tanzanian town of about 200,000 people located 200 kilometers inland from the coastal commercial hub of Dar es Salaam.

When we arrived in Morogoro, we had no contacts, no friends, and no place to live. After more than six weeks of just trying to secure housing, we began the task of getting to know people and of making ourselves known to them. We invited several people to our home for Bible studies. That graduated to a local high-school room where our little group grew to about 25 people.

Our first baptism took place in a stream behind our home as 10 new believers gave public testimony of their faith in Christ. After a few short months, in December of 1993, the Lord made available to us a prime piece of property on the edge of town, on the main road, with a never-been-used, already-in-tact, warehouse building, and over one acre of fenced-in land!

All of this was offered for the incredibly affordable price of $50,000. Through special gifts of our supporting churches, our monthly support, and with the help of the Baptist Bible Fellowship, we were able to secure this property. Amazingly, this debt was completely paid off by January 1997, just over three years from the purchase date.

We are very grateful for the facilities that God has given us, and we ask you to rejoice with us in what you have had a part in doing in order to establish a physical facility from which this ministry will continue to grow. With our new believers, we continue teaching and discipling while remodeling this warehouse so that it would be transformed into a church facility.

When the Lord Jesus "built" people, he called them disciples. Discipleship has been the major thrust in building and establishing the people of the Morogoro Bible Baptist Church. This "discipleship" is accomplished in many different ways and places. All of our people--young and old--are given an opportunity to join our discipleship program. They are given lessons that are well-illustrated concerning some of the very basic doctrines of our faith. Beyond Christian growth, many people even accept Christ as a result of this very effective program.
