Youth
BBFI Missionaries Jerry and Rachel Wyatt came to work in the Morogoro ministry in 1995. They are presently overseeing several ministries involving our Youth. Fellowship and game times are an important part of spiritual growth. Each step of the way, the Word of God is lifted up as our ultimate map for guiding our physical and spiritual lives. Scripture memory contests and cultural choruses referring to the Bible are two exciting avenues for keeping high interest and attention to the scriptures.
We have now had four joint Youth Camps among the BBF missionaries. This year's 1998 youth camp was highlighted with over 150 campers and helpers, two native Kenyan speakers, and five young people accepting Christ as their personal savior. The emphasis of the camp messages were based on II Timothy 2:22 and the camp title was "Run from Satan and run to Jesus."
Adults
The adult Discovery Class employs the same principles as the youth classes. Again, strong emphasis on the Word of God, fellowship, and the bringing of others to Christ, are the goals of the class.
Fellowship, as well as the teaching, learning and even the blending of each others customs, is a wonderfully interesting time. While cultures differ, the principles of a Biblical culture are the same, world over.
Bible Institute
One of the most important aspects of our discipleship takes place through the Tanzania Baptist Bible Institute, which was started by Dave Jones and John Kirkland in Dodoma, Tanzania. Once per month, for two days, the Bible Institute convenes in Dodoma for lectures, spiritual challenge, and more homework assignments. This particular method of Bible Institute has been very advantageous. At present, we have 15 active Institute students from the Morogoro church, and several more who will be joining the institute this year. Together, with the Dodoma church and the Moshi church, there are over 35 students enrolled.
We earnestly ask you to pray for these students because they are the future of the Indigenous churches of Tanzania!
Children
The childrens ministries serve several needful purposes. First of all, we are discipling children; that's important! Secondly, Bible Institute students and others are afforded an opportunity to use their newly learned skills in organizing and teaching a class. This has been extremely beneficial for all concerned. In the past three years, five neighborhood Bible Clubs have been started. Their attendances in the different clubs range from 40-90 and our Tanzanian people are ministering to over 250 children each week!
Worship Services
The worship service is a highlight for all of our poeple. The singing of Swahili choruses and hymns all lead up to the receiving of the preaching of God's Word. The choir members enjoy thoroughly learning new songs and preparing to sing for the glory of the Lord. Perhaps the greatest highlight in the growth of the worship service attendance took place on the fourth anniversary Friend Day services of the church. Six hundred fifty people packed the auditorium that day to help us celebrate.
The Future
We are very excited that many of our people are maturing very well in their faith. We believe that the future will produce more churches planted by the missionaries and by the local Tanzanian people. Already we have one man and his family who gave up a good-paying job in order to go and minister in a village work. They are the first "missionaries" from the Morogoro church. Please join us in prayer for Widson and Flora Mwandooro and their children Lucia and Neema.
Conclusion
While many things have been accomplished, what can be done and what needs to be done are very evident. "Bado" is a Swahili word that comes to mind just now. It means, "not yet." Are we finished in Morogoro? "Bado!"
Special thanks to our co-workers in Morogoro, Jerry and Rachel Wyatt, and to all of you who have prayed, and sacrificed, and have given to missions through your local church in order to make the Morogoro ministry a reality. We cannot do this work without you. God Bless you as you continue to serve Christ and as you continually help to build ministries like the one in Morogoro!
